Jeremiah Emmanuel is a young entrepreneur and youth activist with an impressive background: he was elected to the UK Youth Parliament at age 11 and was deputy young mayor of Lambeth at age 13. Jeremiah gave a key speech at the festival focused on his experiences as an activist and his recently published book, aptly named: ‘Dreaming in a Nightmare: finding a way forward in a world that is holding you back’. His talk embodied the forward-thinking theme of the festival and he asked the young audience some important questions including “I’m not asking what you do, but who are you?” and “what would you like to be when you grow up?”. The talk offered some practical tips for how young people can become involved in their community and how to follow career aspirations.
